Ron feels fortunate to be a native of east Tennessee, where much of his early years were spent hiking and camping in the nearby mountains and Appalachian Trail. The mountains and streams are where he discovered peace, solitude and the over awe-inspiring beauty of mother nature. This love of nature evolved into his passion for capturing these scenes and sharing them with others.
Ron developed an interest in art in his early teens and continued throughout college. His first love was painting, specifically watercolors. Ron spent two years at ETSU studying fine art and photography, but left during his third year to take an apprenticeship position at Bays Mountain Nature Interpretive Center developing exhibits and planetarium illustrations.
His next 40 years were focused on the computer graphics industry. Although he has put his love for creating with pencil and brush on “the back burner", he is able to dedicate his energy to computer graphics and photographic technology. Ron relocated to east Tennessee in 2011 where he began focusing his effort on developing art and not just taking pictures. He actually thinks of his work as “Artography”, meaning he is more interested in capturing the emotion of a scene rather than just taking a picture. He is a self trained photographer whose focus is expanding his knowledge of the available tools and creative ways to use them. His inspiration is the grandness of mother nature both big and small, and his goal is to capture images that inspire and stir your emotion.
When asked “What’s your secret in taking great photos?” He will tell you the first thing is being there and the second is patience. If you are patient with mother nature and you have eyes to see, she will reveal herself in the most spectacular ways!
